The huge building, at 632 metres high and with 121 floors, will accommodate retail space, a hotel, offices, cultural facilities and an observation deck once opened. It is second to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai which stands at a record-breaking 828 metres.
As it becomes more and more important for new construction projects to reduce energy consumption and pollution, energy-saving Danfoss products are increasingly in demand.
Shanghai Tower is filled with Danfoss products including 6700 valves to control the heating and cooling systems – the highest number of valves Danfoss have ever delivered to a single building. The valves will automatically secure precise control and the right balancing of the water flow in the kilometer-long pipework. Not only that, but it means that the people on the very top floor of the building get the temperature they want quickly, irregardless of the temperature preferred on the lower floors.
As well as the valves, Danfoss are supplying 660 variable speed drives to the tower to control the pumps, compressors and fans in the building, making sure that no more energy than is needed is expended, saving around 20-40% compared to if they were running without the drives. Filter driers and pressure transmitters made by Danfoss will also be boosting energy-efficiency in the air-conditioning system.
The energy efficiency of the building has seen it already earn the American Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certification and the Chinese “Three-star green building” award which is the highest standard achievable in China.
