By 5th December 2015 it is mandatory for all large UK companies to file an ESOS energy assessment. You are a large company if:
• You employ 250 or more people, or
• have an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euro (£38,937,777), and an annual balance sheet total in excess of 43 million euro (£33,486,489)
• an overseas company with a UK registered establishment which has 250 or more UK employees (paying income tax in the UK)
What is the ESOS audit about?
The audit requires you to calculate your total energy consumption and identify areas of significant energy consumption. To find out how to calculate your total energy consumption read the full ESOS guidance.
The good news
Although mandatory, the ESOS audit enables you to see where you could be saving energy and therefore money. Many business, such as manufacturers, can save energy by utilising variable speed drives in their plants. With a variable speed drive you can control the amount of frequency going into a motor rather than always running them at full speed. In an application such as a fan or a pump, reducing speed by even just a small amount can give significant savings, for example a centrifugal fan running at 80% frequency consumes only 50% of the energy of one running at full speed.
How we can help
We can help you choose the variable speed drives best suited to your installation environment and with the best potential return on investment for your application. We can even parameterise and install your VSDs if you require.
