Ted is joining us on a temporary basis to help out in our photography department. When he’s not at home with his mum, dad and their dog Tigger he’s at Loughborough University where he’s studying Product Design. In his spare time he enjoys going indoor free climbing as well as miniature origami. Ted says one of his best experiences was when he went on a trip to the York Dungeons with his two best pals.
Finlay is our new warehouse assistant. Before joining us here he worked at Wilpshire Golf Club where he helped to maintain the greens. Finlay lives locally with his family and their dog Charlie. When he’s not at work he enjoys boxing, swimming and walking (but not all at the same time!). Finlay says his best holiday was when he visited Paris which included a stop off at Disneyland of course!
This month another of our site engineers was the proud recipient of our Northern Star award. Ben is one of our experienced site team who spends his days at customers’ sites fixing automation problems and solving breakdowns.
He was nominated for the award for his helpful nature, he is always ready to help his colleagues and customers with any problems they are having. He also recently began running his own in-house training sessions to help and pass on technical knowledge to a wide range of our staff members.
Thank you Ben for your hard work and well done on your award!
The winner of this month’s Northern Star award is a little camera shy. But we couldn’t let his win and contributions go unnoticed, so we have a more mysterious post to commemorate his win.
It was awarded to one of our longest-serving employees and site engineers who doesn’t just do a great job in his day-to-day role, but also goes out of his way to arrange things in his own time. The place wouldn’t be the same without this guy.
Thank you to the mystery man for your hard work and well done on your award!

We recommend planning a service for your drives every 5-8 years, but in the meantime following these tips should ensure uninterrupted service.
Steven has joined us as a site engineer; he will be spending most of his time visiting customers sites to repair their automation parts and help them during breakdowns. Steven previously worked for United Utilities and currently lives near St Helens with his Mum, Dad and four cats. In his spare time he enjoys playing cricket and watching Two and a Half Men. Steven says his favourite experience was when he did a cross-country skiing biathlon and his favourite holiday was when he visited Thailand. Even though Steven has four cats he says he’s not too keen and prefers penguins instead.
As we come to the end of another month it’s time for our next Northern Star Award winner. This month saw Natalie scoop the coveted prize after being nominated by colleagues.
Natalie works in our purchasing department and has spent a lot of her own time recently organising events for staff and fundraising events for charity. This includes training for the Dragon Boat Race and the race itself in June, the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride for The Christie, and bake sales to raise money for charity (her cakes are delicious!).
Well done to Natalie and thank you for your hard work!
Jo is our new Trade Counter Assistant. Before joining us here Jo worked as a delivery driver for Amazon and she currently lives locally. Jo enjoys open water swimming and has completed both six mile and four mile swimming race in the past. She says the best thing she’s ever done was ziplining over Penrhyn Quarry in Wales at over 100mph but waterfall jumping was a close second. Ant Middleton is her favourite celebrity as he appears in her favourite TV show; SAS Who Dares Wins. Jo recently went to Chester Zoo to visit her most adored animal, the Panther. However, she also said that she loves seals just as much!
April saw another double win for the Northern Star Award with two employees scooping the prize.
First is Jacky who runs our admin department and some might say is an oracle here at Northern Industrial – if anyone has a problem Jacky is often the first person to ask. She won because there is not one colleague in the whole business who she hasn’t helped out at one point or another. A colleague who nominated Jacky said “I do not think there is a single person at NIControls that can say they have not had help from Jacky and no one deserves it more than her.”
Vik is one of our electronics engineers and team leaders and was also joint winner with Jacky this month. He was nominated for his help with a customer who one of our sales team was dealing with. One of his nominations said that Vik “helped me with tough order beyond his scope of duties, that helped a lot to speed up the order for customer on breakdown.”
Congratulations to both Jacky and Vik and thank you for going above and beyond and being a pleasure to work with!
Congratulations to Ryan and Khurum, this months Northern Stars!
Ryan is the newest member of our IT team. He has been recognised for helping out with an internal project that bridges across two departments. Our second winner is Khurum, one of our engineers. Khurum has been nominated for this award for his hard work on a customer’s job that required cross departmental support.
Well done to both winners! Keep your eyes peeled for Aprils winners.
Dafydd has joined us as our new German account manager. Before joining Northern Industrial he worked for a textile company and he currently lives with his housemate in Lancaster. In his spare time Dafydd enjoys hiking; his favourite was when he reached the summit of Munro in Scotland. He also plays the double bass in a jazz band and says the best place he’s visited was when he went sightseeing in Poland. His favourite TV show is Mock the Week and he says that he also likes the Lord of the Rings series. Dafydd enjoys all types of music from the 90s; even better accompanied by his favourite Asian cuisine.
