The final Northern Star Award for 2019 was awarded to electronics engineer Kieron who prepared us for a recent audit. We passed with flying colours with no recommendations required due to Kieron’s hard work.
Well done to Kieron and thank you for all your hard work. Congratulations to all of our winners over the past 12 months. We’re looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
Joining Northern Industrial as a sales consultant, Lee lives locally with his fiancee and daughter. He also has a missing cat named Smokey who pops home every once in a while for the odd pouch of food. Before working at Northern Industrial, Lee served 7 years in the infantry division of the army and traveled all over the world including Iraq, Germany and Cyprus. He says the highlight was going to the Falklands as it was a very surreal experience to be in such an iconic place. After leaving the army he then went on to work at Carphone Warehouse’s head office for 11 years! In his spare time Lee enjoys going to the gym, boxing, walking and hopes to one day summit Ben Nevis.
In November two of our staff took home the Northern Star award as it was just too difficult to choose between them.
David is one of our senior electronics engineers who has been with us for many years. He was nominated by one of his sales colleagues who was thankful to David for his fast and detailed responses to technical questions they have.
Alice recently joined us as an apprentice in our purchasing team. She was nominated by a fellow purchaser for her positive impact on the team as a whole, taking the strain off by helping with the workload and generally brightening the office up.
Well done to David and Alice, thank you for all of your hard work!
This week we welcomed Alima to the NI team. After studying teaching at UCBC she decided she wanted a career change and has joined our sales department. Living locally with her family, Alima enjoys going out with her friends, spending time at the gym and listening to music; especially R&B. Before she lived nearby Alima worked abroad in Turkey, although she enjoyed the job she says the highlight was sightseeing in Istanbul.
Congratulations to our Northern Star for October – Ross! As part of the IT team, Ross provides help to everyone in the business so it was only a matter of time before he was nominated for this prestigious accolade.
In a previous life, Ross was a maths teacher and was nominated for the award for going out of his way to help one of our apprentices with their coursework. His full nomination read “I was struggling with part of my coursework and Ross really helped me and explained it thoroughly until i properly understood it. This obviously isn’t part of his job but he took the time to help me out with it.”
Congratulation Ross and thank you for your hard work.
Alice joins us at Northern Industrial as our new apprentice in the purchasing department. She’s here to learn everything there is to know about purchasing and gain a qualification at the same time. Before coming to us she worked at a charity shop and currently lives locally. When Alice isn’t at work she likes to unwind in front of the TV by bingeing her favourite show; The Addams Family or enjoying her favourite spooky film; The Nightmare Before Christmas. Alice said one of her best experiences was when she went on a shopping spree to Camden Market in London.
Andrew is joining us on a temporary basis to help out with product photography, taking pictures of all of our stock. Andrew currently works as a driving instructor and lives locally with his family and their cat, Mozz. When he’s not working, he enjoys running, cycling and swimming and has completed three triathlons. Andrew says his favourite films are Back to the Future 1, 2 and 3 and his favourite TV show is The Chase, although he is yet to beat the chaser in the final round.
Greg is the newest member to join our engineering team. Before joining us here he worked for a local manufacturer. When he’s not at work Greg still enjoys all things engineering as he spends his spare time working on mini projects with his kids, taking things apart and repairing them again; showing them the tricks of the trade. Greg lived in Spain for the first 12 years of his life but he says his best experience was when he went backpacking around Australia despite having a close encounter with a rather dangerous spider!
Our Service Manager Steve is the latest recipient of our Northern Star Award.
As the Service Manager Steve takes care of the engineering side of Northern Industrial, coordinating and managing our electronics and site engineers. As such he liaises with all areas of the business helping with his extensive automation knowledge and finely-tuned problem solving skills.
It is those particular knowledge and skills that prompted his colleagues to nominate him for this month’s award. One colleague in particular stated that “even though he is constantly busy he still takes time out to answer all questions properly. If there’s something technical I need an answer to he will take time out to find manuals and PDFs to help me solve it.”
Hayden is our new apprentice engineers. Hayden lives locally with his dad and their cat Molly. In his spare time Hayden enjoys going to watch football as well as racing RC cars. He says his best achievement was placing 5th best in the whole country for RC car racing in the F3 category. When he’s not at work or enjoying the football he likes to unwind by watching his favourite TV show, Gotham, or jamming out to Green Day.
Donovan is also joining us as an apprentice engineer. Donovan lives with his family, dog Scooby and their three cats. He says his greatest achievement was completing a 35 mile charity bike ride all the way from Great Harwood to Blackpool, not only did he do it once he then did the whole thing again in reverse a few years later! Donovan says his favorite film is Step Brothers or when he’s in the mood to binge watch, it has to be Brooklyn 99.
