Northern Industrial were recently contacted by international wall covering giant Graham and Brown when a servo drive of theirs had failed. The drive was installed on one of their lines and its failure had crippled production.
Although they had ordered a replacement part, it couldn’t be delivered until the following day which meant a full day of production would be lost.
With time of the essence, the Northern Industrial team jumped into action and quickly collected the failed servo drive to bring it into our professional repair centre. We split the unit into control and power sections and assigned an engineer to each section to ensure the fault was diagnosed and repaired in the shortest possible time.
It didn’t take long to locate the fault which was on the unit’s internal switch mode power supply. But there was a problem – the only stock of the component in the UK was six hours away. Our engineers scoured the database and came up with a suitable alternative component which they then fitted before reassembling the unit and giving it a functionality test.
As turnaround time was key with this repair, and our engineers confident in their work, we decided to skip the usual minimum four hour load test and get the unit back to site as quickly as possible.
The decision was ultimately the right decision as Graham and Brown had their servo drive reinstalled and production back to full before 17:00, meaning lost production was cut from the initially thought 26 hours to just nine.
